It’s Mother’s Day.

A day to celebrate moms-all moms, biological, adoptive,
grandmothers, god mothers, and those special people who may not be related to you, but often lend some mom support.  If you go to Wikipedia and look up “mother” here is what you will find.
“Mothers” are women who inhabit or perform the role of bearing some relation to their children, who may or may not be their biological offspring.   Thus, dependent on the context, women can be considered mothers by virtue of having given birth, by raising their child(ren), supplying their ovum for fertilization, or some combination thereof. Such conditions provide a way of delineating the concept of motherhood, or the state of being a mother. Women who meet the third and first categories usually fall under the terms ‘birth mother’ or ‘biological mother’, regardless of whether the individual in question goes on to parent their child. Accordingly, a woman who meets only the second condition may
be considered an adoptive mother, and those who meet only the third a surrogacy mother.

Today is the one day a year when we take a moment to say thank you and share a little extra love.

To celebrate the spirit of the day, take a moment to take a picture of yourself.  A picture with your children, your whole family, or even a selfie will capture the essence of you as a mother on this day.  Share it or keep it to yourself, but make sure a photograph is on your agenda today.  I will post mine a little later…

Happy Mother’s Day!

Joyeux Parenting

I am the proud mother of two beautiful children and have lived in Boston for most of my life. I have over twenty years of experience as a Child Development Specialist working with new families, pediatricians at Mass General Hospital, and Early Intervention. I have a wealth of knowledge and expertise regarding the challenges related to breastfeeding, behavior management, picky eaters, discipline, sleep, and development. I love being a wife and mother and sharing my experiences-the good, the bad, and the ugly. I am constantly learning about new evidence based information as it relates to parenting. Most importantly, I think it is crucial to recognize that we all make mistakes and learn from them. I am a firm believer that humor is essential as you navigate the world. Parenting should be full of joy and that is why I started my business Joyeux Parenting. Thank you for allowing me to share my experiences with you.
