How To Help Your Child Succeed

Imagine my surprise, as I looked for articles to share on my weekend round up when Forbes magazine popped up!  I mean really, what can Forbes tell us about parenting?  They are designed to speak about business, leadership, investing, and entrepreneurs.  So how does that qualify them to write about parenting?

I was so curious about their position, especially given the title “7 Crippling Parenting Behaviors That Keep Children From Growing Into Leaders” that I had to read it.  I found the actual list of behaviors a bit redundant (maybe because the article was dated January, 2014.)  But the pointers offered by Dr. Tim Elmore have a lot of value.  I especially love number 9. “Help them envision a fulfilling future, and then discuss the steps to get there.”

As parents we can talk about how to be fulfilled.  We can talk about how to work hard to get to the end goal in any facet of life.  We can lead by example.

What do you think?

Here is the article of which I speak.

Joyeux Parenting

I am the proud mother of two beautiful children and have lived in Boston for most of my life. I have over twenty years of experience as a Child Development Specialist working with new families, pediatricians at Mass General Hospital, and Early Intervention. I have a wealth of knowledge and expertise regarding the challenges related to breastfeeding, behavior management, picky eaters, discipline, sleep, and development. I love being a wife and mother and sharing my experiences-the good, the bad, and the ugly. I am constantly learning about new evidence based information as it relates to parenting. Most importantly, I think it is crucial to recognize that we all make mistakes and learn from them. I am a firm believer that humor is essential as you navigate the world. Parenting should be full of joy and that is why I started my business Joyeux Parenting. Thank you for allowing me to share my experiences with you.
