“I’m Just”

My husband calls me the Queen of “I’m Just.”  I’m just going to pick up these toys. I’m just going to put this in the dishwasher.  I’m just going to read this quick email.  I do it all the time at home.  I am trying to be productive and get things done in order to be more present for my family.  But in the process of being productive, am I missing the little things?
I have written before about trying to stay more focused on the present moment.  Personally, I have continued to struggle with the balance of work and family as so many parents do.  I question myself on a regular basis.  Did I spend enough time with my children?  Am I taking care of my marriage?  Do I reach out to my parents and extended family enough?  Taking care of everything is exhausting at times.
Today my to-do list is long.  My list was long yesterday and will be tomorrow too.  But “I’m Just” going to take time out to read to my son’s class today.  And I am going to have lunch with an old friend.  Because my productivity includes person to person time.
What are you going to do today to be productive while ignoring your to-dos?
Check out this post about playing games as a part of being productive.

Joyeux Parenting

I am the proud mother of two beautiful children and have lived in Boston for most of my life. I have over twenty years of experience as a Child Development Specialist working with new families, pediatricians at Mass General Hospital, and Early Intervention. I have a wealth of knowledge and expertise regarding the challenges related to breastfeeding, behavior management, picky eaters, discipline, sleep, and development. I love being a wife and mother and sharing my experiences-the good, the bad, and the ugly. I am constantly learning about new evidence based information as it relates to parenting. Most importantly, I think it is crucial to recognize that we all make mistakes and learn from them. I am a firm believer that humor is essential as you navigate the world. Parenting should be full of joy and that is why I started my business Joyeux Parenting. Thank you for allowing me to share my experiences with you.
